Asic Running Shoes Question |
Question:
I am interested an any comments that
anyone has about ASICS running shoes.
Good or bad.
Answer:
I ran in them for years and years,
starting in high school, through a
collegiate and post-collegiate track
and cross-country career. Now and
again I'd try a different shoe (usually
one that my coach would give me 'cos
the maker was sponsoring our team),
but always went back to the old Montreal
model.
Now, as a sometimes runner (10-40
miles a week), I'm still searching
for a good shoe. Could ASICS be convinced
to revive an old model?
The wonderful thing about the Montreal
was that it wasn't built up the way
all the shoes seem to be nowadays.
Because the heel was not built up,
your foot was not encouraged to strike
at the heel, but instead you were
thrown forward onto the midsole. This
is exactly what I wanted, both for
track workouts and for road running.
I don't get injured very easily, and
so don't need the protection of a
heavy shoe, but can't handle training
in either racing flats or spikes on
a regular basis. These shoes were
perfect. They were also nice and flexible,
not stiff-soled.
