Question:
Today I went to buy running shoes.
What a disaster. Everyone trying
to push $140.00 shoes on me as if
I was rich or something. There was
a time in my life that I would have
simply put it on my credit card
but those days are over.
Finally in Sears I find these no
name shoes called Winners for $24.00.
They had the same shape and feel
of the running shoes I used to buy
10 years ago without the high tech
gel look that apparently is what
the $116.00 additional dollar goes
to buy (along with the name).
The lady at the counter told me
that they were not running shoes
and tried to direct me to the higher
end shoes. I may not be an expert
in shoes but I know what I can run
in and I can run in these cheap
shoes.
My understanding is that all these
shoes are made in sweat shops on
the other side of the world by children
being paid .7 cents an hour so where
do they get off charging an arm
or a leg ;0 for the shoe.
Has anyone else heard of these no
name shoes or others like it? Maybe
if we all start demanding cheaper
shoes and refuse to pay these ridiculous
prices than they would cut the high
tech crap out and start making running
shoes that are functional and not
funny looking.
Answer:
Run in what you want, but I'm sure
there's dozens, even hundreds of
choices between the $24 and $140
prices you mentioned so there's
a few choices to fit anyone's price
range.
Shoes, regardless
of how much they cost do not last
long enough to make that ridiculous
amount of an investment. $40-$50
is reasonable in this day and age
though.
The only thing you'll risk with
cheapy $24 is poor structure in
the shoe that could lead you to
over/under pronate and thus cause
injury. But that's a possibility
with any shoe as its your running
style combined with the shoe that
can cause that (most of the time
just your running style).
