Marathon Training

Question:
Last week I ran 15 miles. I should say that I tried to run 15 miles. I walked the last two and I was very sore and tired. I would like to do the chicago marathon. Is it a realistic goal? I dont want to win, I just want to finish.

Answer:
You might refer to Jeff Galloway's book, Marathon. I have read some of it and I believe he outlines training programs that include walking in them. That approach would allow you to finish your 26.2 mile goal probably. Check the book out. I haven't been able to try that approach yet, so I can't say much.

It could be possible. I like the approach Galloway suggests, Long training runs. glancing at his training schedule for the goal of finishing, you are about week 15 of 30weeks. So about 15 weeks away from race day. I don't remember Chicago's date, Mid November? Looks to me like you can. Make a plan and stick to it.

And in this summer weather, make sure you drink enough water!
