Question:
Today I completed my first half
marathon. I ran the Indianapolis
500 Festival Mini-Marathon. I'm
trying not to feel discouraged,
but I ran faster in training than
I did during today's race. I came
down with a cold earlier in the
week, and I know that was part of
my problem.
I enjoyed
the experience of the race. There
was quite a crowd in attendance
this year. I would love to hear
from anyone else who has run Indy,
or who would like to offer advice
to an inexperienced runner.
Answer:
Don't get discouraged. Sometimes
things just don't work ..
Concerning the race - look at your
early mile splits. If they were
a bit fast, that means you got caught
up in the excitement and went out
too fast. When you do that, you
usually pay a bigger dividend at
the end.
Use a HRM to maintain a steady pace
thru a Half-M is a good example
of how maintaining a steady, sustainable
pace can lead to a PR.
Bet you do better next time.
