Advice Wanted: Book For Marathon Training |
Question:
I have set a goal for myself to run
a marathon by the age of 25 (I am
21 now) I have only been running for
two and a half years and at most have
run forty miles per week during cross
country season. I was just wondering
if there is a good guide book to training
for a marathon that I could purchase.
Answer:
Actually there are several. The three
I use are:
Galloway's Book of Running. Jeff Galloway
This covers more than the marathon,
and is a good book to have in any
case.
Marathon - The Ultimate Training &
Racing Guide. Hal Higdon
This is more specific, and has many
good techniques and anecdotes.
Marathon. Jeff Galloway.
This is Galloway's latest on the marathon,
and covers techniques in a more literary
style similar to his Return of the
Tribes to Peachtree Street.
All have good training tips and schedules.
Higdon's and Galloway's styles are
somewhat different, but I recommend
both since as Hal says: training is
more of an art than a science. You
may wish to use the theories outlined
in both books to create your own training
program.
