Fitting 15k Into Marathon Training Schedule |
Question:
I am training for Cincinnati's Flying
Pig Marathon on May 4 and will be
running the 15k portion of the Heart
Mini-Marathon that is coming up in
2 weeks. My training schedule calls
for an 18 mile long run the weekend
of the mini. I am aware of the importance
of the long run.
I'd like to set a PR in the mini but
not jeopardize my first marathon.
How can I fit in the required training
run and still be competitive in the
mini?
Answer:
3 mile warm-up race.
5.7 mile easy run after the race as
easy as it needs to be.
Keep the time between the race and
easy run to a minimum. Just enough
to get some extra water/gel, etc.
No more than 5-10 minutes.
