Question:
I am looking for a website for a
firm out of Cali that made great
running shorts that had some mesh
pockets on the outside of the short
for Gu's, etc. I lost the site and
can't remember the name of the company.
Does anyone know the company's URL
of this vague description?
Answer:
A Canadian based company called
Sugoi, who have a very high profile
in cycling clothes have recntly
branched out into running gear.
They have a short that has a mesh
pocket that is sewn into the back
of a running short that you can
carry, energy bars, gels, gloves
etc . . while training and racing.
The positioning of the pocket is
such that anything stored in the
pocket does not bounce around. The
rest of the short is of a very high
quality.
It's hard
to believe with as much segmentation
of the running market as goes on
by equipment manufacturers that
other apparel makers haven't introduced
more serious distance running shorts
with pockets.
The Roo Split is very comfortable
and my favorite for training runs
where you only carry one, maybe
two gel packets. But the pocket--which
is unusually accessible due to its
location and size--is only on one
side and even two packets tend to
bounce around (one is fine). If
they made them in a version with
the pocket on both sides I'd love
it.
I just ran the Steamtown Marathon
with a new pair of New Balance shorts
with a deep pocket on each side
and an elastic/drawstring waist.
They're a little longer than I like
but the pocket feature is great.
I still chose to pin some packets
into the waistband (pin to outside,
then fold over and drop packet inside
the waistband to keep from flapping
around) to keep the pockets from
being too heavy. Plus I used the
pockets to store a waterproof pacing
chart, the tear off tabs from a
couple of gel packets, etc.
