Question:
Many people have mentioned this
book to me - Optimum Sports Nutrition
by Michael Colgen - and have said
that it is basically the bible of
sports nutrition. Does anyone know
anything about it? The version we
have here right now was published
way back in 1993 - is there a more
recent version, or is one going
to be released soon?
Answer:
I have found this book to be quite
informative, but remember the athletes
that he refers to in his book are
Olympic athletes and others of this
caliber. Most people do not train
4 hours per day or longer, so just
remeber this when you are reading
the book. The book does cover the
major topics in sports nutrition
and addresses issues often asked
by athletes. I would also suggest
reading or using another book such
as Total Nutrition by the Mt. Siani
School of Medicine. Total Nutrition
was developed by a team of doctors
and dietitians, this book is the
most comprehensive that I have used.
I also like
Sports Nutrition by Nancy Clark
(I think that is the author's name.
I find that it has a lot of good
information on nutrition that is
applicable to all types of atheletes,
even the weekend athlete.
