Question:
I did something a little different
this month. I bought the Runner's
World, August edition, before my
copy came in the mail. I just happen
to notice today, that the one I
bought at the store has a Bonus
Women's section that is advertised
on the upper right hand corner.
The table of contents, on the one
bought at the store, has also been
changed a bit, by making a picture
on one page smaller and then adding
the Women's Running section at the
end.
The Women's
Running is a few extra pages that
were shoved between pages. My guess
is that they have a male and female
version of the magazine, and they
send me the male version in the
mail. Any comments?
Answer:
I wonder why they would do that?
I wish they would include all of
the content in just one version
of the magazine. Why would they
ume that only the men in the household
would be reading the magazine just
because a man's name is on the subscription?
I have heard though that many magazines
have a retail-shelf version that's
slightly different than mail order.
Why? Certain
words and images sell better profiled/featured
on newstands/bookstores ..when those
things are not needed to move the
product to subscribers. Many magazines
have different covers and advertisements
based on region of the country in
fact .with the content being 99%
the same. Newstand issues
always have eye cand factor, buzz
word appeal things profiled on the
cover.
