Question:
Are spandex running pants good for
biking in the winter? Any men out
there who still wear spandex for
biking?
Answer:
I wear tights. I like the bright
green ones that make me look like
Peter Pan :-). Seriously, all mine
are plain black. They come in different
fabric weights, some are better
for winter. REI used to sell a winter
tight that I find very warm, with
Capilene underwear it's comfortable
below freezing.
You can wear
bike shorts underneath if you like.
Or you can use shorts and leg warmers,
but I don't find that as comfortable
as tights. Your mileage may vary.
If they are expensive bicycle tights
designed by some horses patootie
they will have a chamois in them.
Avoid these like the plague. Else
you will surely find that you need
to take them off somewhere when
it's warm and you won't have any
option but to wear hot tights.
Just wear
your bicycle shorts under the tights
you have or if they are a bit loose
in the crotch some people wear the
bicycle shorts on the outside to
keep from being caught on the nose
of the saddle every time they stand
and sit.
