Question:
I went to a sports nutritionist
recently, with the hope of gaining
some new knowledge. I'm quite serious
about my training, and would say
that I know a fair amount about
lifting/dieting, although it's not
always the easiest to apply.
Anyways,
I went to this woman at around 220,
and about 18% body fat, and told
her what I wanted to do (lose bodyfat,
not muscle) and how I was training
at the time (4 x week weights &
cardio - I've read Brawn & Beyond
Brawn since and have reduced the
frequency of my training).
Now for the
diet she came up with for me (also
said that ECA was poison & to
stay away).
2000 Calories.
65% Carbs
15%fat
20% protein
Say I burn 700 a workout (weights
and cardio), this leaves me 1300
Cal for the day.
Now I KNOW this is too low, can
anyone give me some insight as to
what this woman was thinking? She
wouldn't really go into detail (I
won't be back to see her again)
as to why she recommended what she
did.
Answer:
Many, if not most, sports nutritionists
tend to take a one size fits all
approach to desigining diets. So
all women get X calories, all men
Y calories, with the same percentages
of macronutrients (nevermind that
the body doesn't know from percentages,
and that nutrients should really
be set according to body mass in
the first place). that'd be my guess.
