Question:
I'm very interested in doing the
Vancouver marathon next May It would
be my second marathon. Anyone have
any thoughts/ideas to pass along
about this one? Is it a difficult
course, is there enough support
(water, etc.)? Any comments at all
will be appreciated.
Answer:
Vancouver had the best support for
the marathons I've run (7). They
have water, sports drinks, power
bars, and orange segments available
3-4km along the route (there was
one longish stretch just coming
out of Stanley Park that seem under-supplied).
There's lots of support along the
way, and the citizens turn out to
cheer you on. The route isn't too
hilly, with some short uphills in
the first half. The long, slow rise
in the middle of Stanley Park is
worse than it looks on the bus the
day before. Finally, the finisher
support (water, bagels, oranges,
power bars, mage, etc.) is excellent.
I'd recommend it highly.
